Whitepaper: ePaper for Sustainable DOOH Advertising
Outdoor of home ad digitization has lured the world’s largest companies to the DOOH table, enabling smarter ways to build brand awareness and sales. What more companies are beginning to realize, however, is there’s a hidden downside to relying on LCD displays: They’re simply not sustainable.
While ePaper hit the mainstream as the paper-like screen in popular eReaders like the Kindle, that same technology is emerging as the go-to sustainable technology for DOOH (Digital Out of Home) advertising. E Ink compared the environmental impact of 32-inch signage in three different media: ePaper, printed paper, and LCD. If 100,000 ePaper signs operated 20 hours per day, updated their ads four times per hour and ran for five years, they’d reduce CO2 emissions by about 500,000 tons when compared with LCD. Compared with traditional paper signs, ePaper would reduce CO2 emissions by about 4 million tons.
